Home pre-school for Weston

Getting bigger... getting close to school age.

(This was actually Weston in time-out... funny kid.)

One of my goals for the year was to start a home pre-school for Weston.  He turns 5 this summer, so he will be old enough for kindergarten in the fall.  But I'm not sure he is ready yet, so I am hoping a little structured play will help.  I decided to do alphabet letters again, like I did with Jared (and his friend) a few years ago.  He mostly just needs some structured activities, so I am trying to dedicate Monday and Wednesday mornings to Weston (and Savannah).  Savannah is enjoying the activities too and maybe learning just as much as Weston.  She is better at coloring!  Anyway, we're also trying to do playgroup on Tuesday mornings, outings on Thursday, and bike (trailer) to the beach on Friday.  It's been fun.  We have done A, B, C, D, and E, but I'll start with A, B, and C on this post.

Weston still loves Hobbit and Lord of the Ring characters, so I'm trying to incorporate those into our fun.  His favorite is Azog, so that's the ugly creature of the day.

Playdough was fun, although somehow I ended up making Hobbit creatures...

The ugly creature for letter B was Bolg, Azog's son. We went on a B hunt and found lots of things.

These homemade bubbles were great!  I found them on this site Teaching 2 and 3 year olds.  The straws were really easy to blow bubbles through.  We did some outside and then made some big bubble towers inside.

Owen joined in the fun after he got home from school.  He was pretty good about blowing the bubbles.  (Weston and Savannah weren't quite getting the concept of blow OUT, not suck IN.

We did playdough bugs, although it was mostly me doing the making. Weston was impressed.  :)

Our outing was a little hike nearby.  We were hoping to see lots of butterflies, but didn't find very many.  Maybe it was too cold that day?

Making cookies was a hoot!  I loved watching how Savannah was helping... eating the chocolate chips.  It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it...
