Girl Time

Alex was out of town for 3 weeks for work in June-July.  The boys were at FSY.  Alex and the boys spent another week in July on a backpacking trip, so Savannah and I had a couple of weeks with just the two of us.  We went to the pancake breakfast at the church on the 4th of July.  We hosted friends for dinner (who also had some of their kids at FSY).  The deal was I would host if I didn't have to do the grilling. The guys took care of the grilling and everyone brought food to share.  We had a good time, and Savannah and I even put together some star-shaped candy boxes.

We made 9 pies before the 4th and delivered 7 of those to various people.  June and July were the peak of fruit season for us, with the apple, peach, and apricot trees bursting with fruit.  We got some plums as well this year.  Savannah and I enjoyed some fruit smoothies, fruit & ice cream, and fruit & waffles.  We did several batches of dried apricots as well.  It was quite a bit of work but also very delicious with fresh fruit right off the tree!  We also enjoyed going out to eat once, making homemade pizza, and eating sweet potato fries & hot dogs.

Savannah and I also did an 18-mile bike ride one morning.  We set off towards the harbor and did make it there.  The hills were a challenge for our ride.  On the way back, we were having a really slow ascent up the hill, to the point where I basically had no momentum to keep going.  I suggested we stop for a minute and take a rest.  However, in the process I ended up bonking into the curb and fell off my bike.  I was okay (just a little bruised), but the bike chain came out of place and was wedged into the frame.  We still had at least 7 miles left, so we weren't going to walk it back.  It was either call a friend with a truck to come get us or try to fix the chain.  I pulled at the chain without success.  I was about to give up, but Savannah said a little prayer.  As I tried again, I was able get the chain unstuck and re-threaded.  My hands were all black by that point, but I was just glad we were able to keep going and make it back. It was the longest bike ride either of us had done.  I don't think either of us had done more than 6 miles before, so it was a good accomplishment for us.

We watched Inside Out 2 in the theater, went to the beach, painting nails, and watched movies at home.  I also did quite a bit of yardwork and housework, as well as working my part-time job on Thursdays and Fridays throughout June and half of July.  So it wasn't all play, but we enjoyed our girl time.

When the boys were backpacking, Savannah and I went to the church pioneer day celebration - nice BBQ lunch, with cute little pies for dessert and face painting.
