recommendations wanted

Okay, so I do need to get a few things even though we're having another boy. And I want your recommendations...

This is what we'll be looking for, so tell me what you like:

- new infant car seat (easily portable)
- some kind of carrier- I'm thinking a sling, but have no idea what's good. (I would still like to walk Nathan to school and push Jared in the stroller, so is there a good comfortable carrier for the baby? maybe I'm being too naive about this...)
- thermometer? I was thinking about one of those kind you rub across the forehead...are they worth it? (I'm about done with the rectal thermometers!)

Tell me what other great things I need...

A sling would be great. Both Em and D loved riding in my mei-tei. Head over to this forum http://www.thebabywearer.com/forum/index.php !

My friend makes beautiful and sturdy slings w/ pockets for only $30. Let me know if you're interested.

Slings are great! I am planning to make a Moby style wrap - really easy. I just have to actually get to the store and get the fabric.

I still have the same infant carrier I had with Timothy.

I've just used the digital thermometers that you can do orally or under arm. Not nearly as accurate, but they'll let you know if you need to see a Dr. or not.

I keep wondering if I am forgetting things as well. I don't have a lot of time though...

I don't know how much you're willing to spend, but I got a travel system from combi strollers. My sister has the same system and she loves it. I know a lot of people in my ward love the slings.

for the stroller, go to www.combistrollers.com You can get a car seat and stroller all in one and they are interchangeable.

You did not ask about this- but I can get you a cute, white plastic high chair at IKEA. (No cushioned fabric, lounge chair type) Just easy wash plastic! (I may get one for here at our house, too) The color choice is either white or red. Mom

Okay, so I don't have any of my own kiddos, but I have lots of experience just the same. That said, you have to get a sling!!! My sis in law was addicted to hers with the last baby. She had the baby in it all the time while chasing around the 2 year old. The other cool thing is that they were living in Boston--she would just put my niece in the sling and then put a slightly larger coat on, over baby and all! I wore it a few times and it did seem really easy on the back and comfy for baby.

Oh, and for pumping there is this microwave bag you just add a little water to along with your washable pump parts. Zap it all for like 60 seconds and its germ free! Maybe everyone is using these and I've been totally out of the loop, but I thought these were totally easy and a brilliant idea.

Ooo ooo, this is one of my favorite things. I LOVE my sling. It is very comfy and cute. Ella still loves riding in hers and I even hoisted Grey into it the other day. The sling that I prefer is a pouch sling (I haven't had a wrap sling, though) It is called a hotsling and you can check them out at hotslings.com Also, Whit just purchased a new one for her upcoming baby and her is a peanutshell (I believe you can check them out on peanushell.com). It is very cute, as well. Both of the hotslings and peanutshell have easy and reliable ways to measure yourself to ensure that you get a great fit (very important). If you have any questions, just ask either Whit or myself and we would love to help. Oh, you can now buy hotslings and peanutshell in Target...but you can generally find a deal on the internet.
As far as the carrier, I am personally in love with the Graco seats/travel systems. They are sturdy, the car seats can be buckled into another car w/o the base (very useful when transferring into another car) and I think they have some other pretty great features. If you have any questions you can ask either Whit or myself, again. You can find most of the travel systems at Baby's R Us. I hope this helps.

I'm sooo trying to figure out the car seat mess myself. Right now, I'm trying to decide between a combi and another graco (that's what our previous one was). I love the look of the combi, but our double stroller is a graco, so if I want to move the baby from the car to the stroller still in the seat, I have to stick w/a graco. We'll see.

As for the carriers, as Steph mentioned, I'm a big, big sling fan. I just bought my second (since my other one will be a little small right after I have the baby)-both of which are pouch slings. If you like a bit more structure, I'd recommend a Baby Bjorn. They're well worth the money, in my opinion.

I'm trying to figure out the thermometer situation too. Ours is pretty sucky, even just under the arm :P

Also, bumbos are great for sitting in when they get a little older. I know lots of people who love theirs and I got one at my shower. There is also a tray that comes with so you can feed him in it too.

We just got Ben and Michelle a thermometer for their new baby. It goes in the ear and takes one second!

carseat-love Graco, we used the snugride. Def. get a sling of some type. For newborns, the best styles are wrap (which you can put on and pop baby in and out of depending on fabric), pouch, and ring. There are lots of brands for each. For toddler, I love my angelpack LX (similar to beco) for on the back or for snuggly babes (newborn is ok, but 4-6 mos. is better) a mei tai.
Thermometer-we have the ear kind and have found it's not very accurate.

We love our forehead thermometer... I would go for a "snugli" carrier, (seems to hold higher weights so they don't grow out of it as fast)and for car seats, basically they are all about the same.. I have checked out Consumer reports on them and basically for an infant carrier there aren't any big differences... I like my Graco...

Are you still looking for opinions? You know I have a few to spare. First off, your top baby name should be "McKay." If you are getting a front pack (instead of the sling), I'd vote for a Baby Bjorn over a Snuggli (easier to get baby in and out of one-handed while holding baby with 2 kids yelling at you). We've used an ear thermometer for all three kids and never had issues.

Anyway, you're an expert by now anyway. WE LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU!
