Fall Sports

Jared ran Varsity Cross Country this fall for the school team, Owen played flag football, and Savannah and Weston played soccer.  Jared ran 3 miles, and his PR was 18:13.  His times varied based on how hard the course was, which some were pretty tough.  He worked hard all season.  He earned the "Best Teammate" award at the CC Banquet.  He and another teammate got that award, and to preface the award, the coach told the parents, "These are the type of guys you want your daughters to date."  We were laughing about that, but he is a really good guy and always encouraging his teammates.  One of our good friends from church, Nathan H, ran on the JV team.

Owen played his third season of flag football.  He didn't know anyone on the team this season but got to know and enjoy playing with his teammates.  He liked his coach too.  The first game was great, with a nice win, along with an interception and touchdown.  The rest of the season didn't go as well, but Owen got another interception and showed improvement on defense.  They made it to the 2nd round of play-offs, but then had a tough loss to his friend William's team (19-21).  They were ahead most of the game, but the other team pulled off the win.  He had fun playing though and will play another season in the spring.

Savannah and Weston decided to try soccer again, after not playing for 3 years.  They were definitely behind in their skills, but they also were pretty young on their teams.  Weston played on a U-14 team and Savannah played as a 9 year old on a U-12 team (since she would turn 10 before the end of the year).  Despite their level of play, both of them got on good teams and won most of their games.  Savannah's team got 1st in league play, losing once during the regular season and then in the league tournament to the same team (but still having the most wins for the season with a record of 8 and 1).  They went on to the Area Tournament and won it, so they'll move on to the Regional Tournament in February.  Savannah didn't score any goals, but she steadily improved throughout the season.  She is still deciding whether or not to play again next year since the season interfered with her fall hip-hop dance performance.  She would have missed 3 of the 9 games if she wanted to participate in the dance performance (and she already missed a Sunday game as well).

Weston's team also took 1st place in league play, with a record of 8 and 2, as well as winning 2nd place in the league tournament.  His team went on to the Area tournament and took third place.  We didn't see Weston involved much in the play; he was lucky to connect with the ball.  He did have one shot on goal, but it didn't have quite enough on it.  This may be his last year of soccer, as he didn't enjoy it that much.  We were proud of him for sticking with it and working hard though.  He loves kickball, but soccer just isn't the same!  Both Weston and Savannah had great coaches - we were grateful for their patience and work in helping them improve.

Jared didn't play soccer, but he refereed several games, as a linesman, to earn referee points for Weston's team to be able to go to the Area Tournament.  Alex also helped with the refereeing as well, so he and Jared did a good job volunteering.
