We didn't get to spend much time in Austria. We mostly just passed through, staying one night there. We were planning on a few more hours to explore, but as we were leaving Prague, we kept getting a "low tire pressure" warning on our rental car. So we had to go back and trade cars, which took a while. We had about a 4.5 hour drive from Prague to Hallstat, Austria, where the kids were able to get out and play. It was such a beautiful area - I wish we had more time to spend there. But even the short amount of play was much needed for the kids.
We still had a 2 hour drive to our Airbnb that night in Napplach, Austria, so we had to keep going. It was 9:15pm before we were able to find pizza at a gas station. There aren't very many places open late in the little Austrian towns. We had a hard time finding where we were staying because the GPS couldn't find the address. It was dark by the time we got in and although we got to the general area, we couldn't find the house. We tried to communicate with our hosts on the phone, but they only spoke German. We understood that we were supposed to look for a blue house, but it was too dark to see the colors of the houses. We drove around that area for 30 minutes before we found it. It was nearly 11:00pm when we got there. The hosts were really nice, and they had dessert waiting for us - some kind of cake with powdered sugar on it. Savannah was excited to play with some dolls they had there.
When we woke up in the morning, the view from our window was amazing (the picture below with the flowers). It was a gorgeous sunny day. The light blue house is where we stayed. The owners of the house had a nice back yard area where the kids played for a little bit in the morning - a soccer net and play house. They also got to help feed the chickens.
They loved the zipline in Hallstat:
Weston bit the dust a few times on it though...
