We finally made it to the Beamish Museum in June, which was only about 20 minutes away from where we lived in Durham. Beamish Museum is an open air museum, which makes you feel like you stepped back into the early 1900's. We enjoyed riding the tram and the steam train. The kids got a kick out of standing on the bridge above the steam engine and watching it go by underneath us.
Owen, Weston, and Savannah enjoyed a ride at the fairgrounds.
We had to stop at the bakery and watch them baking cookies and bread. I'm standing next to a giant kneader. And we had to sample the treats of course! Yummy.
We took a short tour through a mine - we all put on the protective hats, which were useful for the adults because we had to stoop down to walk through most of it.
We didn't have time to see all of Beamish in one afternoon, so a few of us went back later to see the rest of the museum. Jared and Savannah came with me the last Saturday morning in June. We liked the things we saw on the first visit better, but it was nice to get treats at the bakery again! The horse and the pig were favorites of our 2nd visit.
Savannah sounded cute in this one when she asked if she could pet the horse too.
