Headed home

We had another early flight, at 7:20am, from Oslo to London.  We had to wake up at 4:00am so we could eat breakfast at 4:30am and then catch a bus to the airport.  The bus was late, but we still had ample time to make our flight.  Our flight from Oslo got delayed by an hour due to a maintenance issue.  We should have missed our connection in London, because we only had 20 minutes to make the connection.  But they held the flight for us.  We had to run through the airport in London, having to go through security again.  We didn't have time to buy any more food or water (which we had to dump out).  On the plane, we had booked a really cheap flight, which didn't include any meals or beverages.  A few days before our flight, I was checking on that and it appeared that we had to pay an extra $30 each for food.  So we opted not to pay the $210 for 2 meals.  That meant we had to bring food with us.  We brought several snacks, but we couldn't bring any drinks, so we still ended up paying $3 each for a bottle of water.

Everyone did well on the 10 hour flight from London to Austin, TX.  We got in around 2:30pm on August 7th.  We were all pretty worn out after the long flight and going through customs.  But we were all hungry!  Snacks don't take the place of meals very well.  My dad picked us up at the airport and then we met my mom, my sister and her family at Chili's. Ahhh... chips and salsa!

Audrey and Sam had balloons for us, as well as t-shirts for the Owen fan club.  There's a story behind Owen's fan club.  I'm not sure how it got its name, but Jim (Alex's brother) became the president of the club.  Owen is sometimes hard to get along with, and we aren't always big fans of him (or more specifically his behavior).  Jim always stood up for Owen and was his biggest supporter.  They had a special bond, and we always talked about how Jim was Owen's biggest fan.  Owen was heartbroken when Jim passed away last year.  Recently, Owen wanted to get his club going again, so he chose my sister (Audrey) to be the new president of his club.  She was happy to do that and even sang a song for him to "accept the nomination."  Owen was thrilled to see my sister and her family wearing t-shirts to support his fan club when we got back from England.  And while we know that Jim is still Owen's biggest fan, Aunt Audrey is doing a great job filling in for Uncle Jim as president.

We got some much needed rest after dinner the night we flew in.  We spent the next couple of days in the pool.

On Friday, we also hung out with Audrey and Sam, doing blacklight monster mini golf, In 'n Out Burger, and going to a baseball game.  It was pretty hot out there watching the Tulsa Drillers vs. the San Antonio Missions, but it was a nice welcome back to America.  There's not much more American than baseball games!

I didn't eat a hot dog at the baseball game, but that was one of the things I'd really been wanting in England.  We tried some from a jar, but they weren't the same.  I definitely missed a good hotdog with dill relish on it!
