The day finally came that Weston's promised Lego set arrived! We told him that if he scored a goal during his season that we would immediately buy him his Lego set. If he didn't score a goal, he had to wait until the end of the season. He didn't score a goal... but it was motivation to keep playing the whole season.
When we were deciding who would play winter basketball, we bribed Owen and Weston NOT to play with a Lego set. Just too expensive to play for not much reward (neither Owen nor Weston are aggressive at all - they avoid the ball). Last year, Owen would only dribble in the "safe zone" outside of the 3 point line, where the other team was not allowed to steal it. We opted to buy Legos instead of pay for a season that would be painful for everyone...
They were so happy to get their Legos!
